| 'A Poet's Song' is a
literary festival taking place in Dundalk and it's rural
hinterland. There are various initiatives which will develop
local participation with strong educational and community elements
including creative writing masterclasses, drama performances, a
series of literary lectures and an exhibition of the work of the
local poet Jim Craven.

3. Creative Writing Masterclasses
In conjunction with the Louth County Library, a professional
writer & facilitator, Michael Collins, conducted a series of
masterclasses. Participants will read from their completed
work to a public audience during the festival.
Aspiring writers are also invited to read from their own works.

Poetry
Competition
Our annual poetry competition for
students from primary and secondary schools is in it's 22nd year and
this year, an adult section has been introduced. The
competition was for the first time organised with the
assistance of the Dundalk Democrat, a regional newspaper in the
north east. A short story competition was also promoted by this newspaper.

6. Full Length Stage Play
Premiere of 'The Smugler's Sacrafice', a play written by Jim Craven
described by John B. Keane as ' a totally dynamic genius'. The play
has a local theme re-inacting familiar events on the border near Dundalk,
performed by Castle Players.

'Look out and keep your head down' - Pub Drama is back.
